Please read and understand this agreement.

GSuite for Education is a version of GSuite (formerly known as Google Apps) designed for use in schools. It offers the benefits of popular web apps like GMail, Google Docs, and Google Drive along with additional features and protections for schools.

Key features specific to GSuite for Education:

  • Provides a “walled garden” that allows communication only within the and domains
  • Disables the Advertiser Tracking used to collect browsing information and target ads at users
  • Does not show advertisements of any kind
  • Enhances collaboration by using the Classroom app, only available in the Education version of GSuite

In order to protect the privacy of our students, it is important that students and staff access GSuite services using our GSuite for Education domain. Regular “” accounts should not be used for school for two important reasons:

  • They do not offer the same privacy and advertisement free protections as GSuite for Education
  • Parents have not consented to the collection and use of students’ private information outside of our GSuite domain

Google has committed to a high level of safety, security, and privacy within the GSuite for Education domain. Google will not browse, harvest, or disclose any information within our domain unless required to by law. However, Google is a US based company and the data is stored in the United States and subject to US law. Legal disclosure under United States Federal law and/or the laws of the State of California may not constitute legal disclosure under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act of the Province of British Columbia.

Staff who use our GSuite for Education domain must agree to protect the privacy of our students and their information while using this service.

  • Do not create or store files or documents that include the names of students who have not been signed up by their parents. For example, class lists should not be stored in GSuite.
  • Do not create or store any information that parents have not agreed to disclose for the purposes of using GSuite. Parents have agreed to disclose:
    • Student’s name
    • Student’s grade
    • Teacher’s name
    • Class name (used to differentiate classes in the Classroom app)

This means that students’ birthdates, stories that talk about other family members or students, behavioural information, or medical information should not be put into a document in GSuite. This is not an exhaustive list of types of personal identity information. The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act defines personal identity information as “any personal information of a type that is commonly used, alone or in combination with other information, to identify or purport to identify an individual.” Teachers should use good judgement when creating assignments and storing information online in GSuite or any other online tool.
